RE: NHTSA recalls 22V-696 and 23V-62 While parked at a State Camp Ground the Carefree Awning opened violently. If someone had been standing outside near the Van they surely would have bee hit/injured. Conditions; Sunny afternoon, no Wind, Flat surface. I am the 2nd Owner of the Winnebago Travato Camper Van. Through my own research prior to buying the Van I was aware that there had been issues with the Carefree Awnings. The LT 225/ 75R 16 rear driver and passenger tires started shredding on my 2020 Winnebago Travato at around 12,000 miles. First the rear driver side one and then about 300 miles later the rear passenger. I drove only on well paved roads, mostly highway, and kept it under a RV carport in my garage when not in use
My vehicle is a 2020 Winnebago Travato GL; on a 2019 RAM Promaster Chassis. Winnebago installs a second alternator that charges to Volta system's Lithium Battery Pack (A GL Model has lithium batteries). Winnebago routes the wiring harness for this 2nd alternator through passenger side front wheel well. There is the possibility that in sharp turns the tire will rub on the wiring harness, thus damaging it. Other Travato owners have identified this rubbing issue (on a Travato Owner's Facebook group).
