Privacy

Last updated 2026-09-19 (September 19, 2026). Reading this site needs no account and sets no cookie by default. This page lists everything that is stored and when.

Email sign-up

If you subscribe, the sign-up service stores your email address (lowercased), the version of the consent text you agreed to, the time you agreed, the site and page path you signed up from, and a hash of your IP address. The IP hash is a SHA-256 hash combined with a secret value; the address itself is not stored. It is used only to limit repeated requests.

Sign-up is double opt-in. We send one confirmation email and add you to the list only after you follow the link in it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect at once. We do not sell or share your address.

Error reports

When you report an error, the service stores the text you write, the page path and the time, plus a hash of your IP address for rate limiting. Do not put personal details in the text. Reports are used to check and correct records.

Analytics and cookies

Analytics use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2. All consent signals start as denied. Analytics storage is granted only if you press Accept on the cookie banner. Your choice is saved in your browser in the localStorage key rv-consent-v1 so the banner is not shown again. Analytics is not switched on in the current build.

Ads

The site has reserved ad slots. Ads through Google AdSense are off until they are enabled, and will follow the same consent choice when they are.

Retention

Subscriber records are kept while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep the address and the unsubscribe time so that we do not email you again, until you ask us to erase it. Error reports are kept while they are being reviewed and as a record of corrections. Rate limit counters are deleted after about two hours.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or erase the data we hold about you. The contact email address is set when the site is deployed; until then, use the error report form and say what you need.

Complaint narratives

Consumer complaint narratives shown here are public U.S. government data from NHTSA. Before display they are redacted for names, email addresses, phone numbers, VINs and addresses. See the methodology. If you find personal information in an excerpt, report it and it will be removed.

Children

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
